My union promotes working conditions that best support the quality of my work with children; furthermore, deriving a reasonable living from my labor is what keeps me where I am, doing high-level professional work for the benefit of children in a public school.  Attracting and retaining quality teachers is not only in the best educational interests of children, but also in the financial interests of governments, as teacher turnover is incredibly costly.
